iPads Losing their WiFi connection?

According to a recent CNN article, it appears as though some iPads are losing their connection to “known” or “remembered” WiFi networks. According to Apple, “Under certain conditions, iPad may not automatically rejoin a known Wi-Fi network after restart or waking from sleep.”
While I didn’t run across this issue myself with our test device, there are a few things you can try to get your iPad reconnected with your wireless network:
- Reset your wireless connections on the device:From the iPad go to Settings > Reset > Reset Network Settings
- If you have a dual-band WiFi router and both bands have the same name, rename one of them. For example, if you’ve got one called “Linksys” that’s pushing both 802.11 B and G, rename one of them to, for example, “Linksys G” so there’s a difference.
- Try leaving your iPad tilted up a bit rather than lying flat on a table. Because of the solid aluminum case, there could be an issue of the device not being able to receive the signal well enough.
- Move your iPad closer to your router. While this may not be optimal if you’re in a building with only one router and a lot of walls, it’s worth considering.
- Probably the least-likely scenario: Make sure that your wireless router is plugged in and powered on.
That last one’s pretty self-explanatory but I thought I’d make mention of it anyway…
