Problems with .msi Installer on Windows 7

Posted: Monday, January 19th, 2009 by admin

Ok, if you are testing Windows 7, I am sure you are finding your own fair share of bugs, but I found one today and, after some good googling, I have a solution. I, of course, can take no credit other than making this information available in another location. I will, however, leave you the link where I found this magical tidbit: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprogeneral/thread/1594abfb-0e3b-4580-b42c-c15d0ee850ec/#page:3

Long story short:

Problem: Windows installer crashes immediately when trying to install Java, though some searching shows that it could be just about anything.

Solution: Start Regedit
Find HKLM\Software\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions
Rename MachineThrottling to _MachineThrottling

I have no idea what this does but I do know that, as soon as I did this, (without even rebooting) my Java install ran beautifully! I hope this helps some of you beta testers going forward!
