SharePoint 2007 memory errors

Posted: Friday, July 20th, 2007 by marcus

When reviewing the Application Event Log on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 server, I noticed that I was getting six different error messages are regular intervals.

  1. Event ID 7076 – Attempted to read or write to protected memory
  2. Event ID 7076 – Exception from HRESULT 0x80005006
  3. Event ID 6482 – Attempted to read or write to protected memory
  4. Event ID 6482 – Exception from HRESULT 0x80005006
  5. Event ID 6398 – Attempted to read or write to protected memory
  6. Event ID 6398 – Exception from HRESULT 0x80005006

After scratching my head for a few minutes, I found a really simple solution. There is a hotfix for .NET 2.0 which seems to resolve all of the above error messages. The hotfix is documented in Microsoft KB923028, and it does not require a restart of the server. However, please understand that it will stop IIS and all of the services associated with SharePoint.

Same with me. I applied the hotfix and it worked for a few days but then they came back.

    Tom,

If you are going to cut and paste another man’s post you should at least give a post back.

    Same here –
Applied the hotfix and the error returns as Ludis mentioned above.

I am getting these errors on a x64 bits machine. I am not getting those on my x32 bits farm though. This is definitely something to do with x64. I have a feeling this may be due to the DEP (data execution settings) on the performance options. May be DEP does not recognize MOSS 2007 x64 bits.
these errors filling up the APP Event Logs.

I noticed even I applied the hotfix it does not show up in the Add Remove programs. I think it just reruns the .net 2.0 with the latest code.
