The BlackBerry PlayBook is Here: Now What?

Posted: Monday, May 2nd, 2011 by Ted

The newest member of the BlackBerry family has arrived and it’s a tablet! It’s been out for a week or so now and, while we’ve not had a chance to get our hands on one, they buzz over the PlayBook has been very positive. It’s smaller than the iPad with a 7-inch display and it will allow you to run Android OS apps but one thing that’s a bit confusing, but also makes sense (I’ll get to that in a second), is the fact that there’s no built-in email access.

I know, I know, that’s the BlackBerry’s bread and butter! They wouldn’t have the foothold in corporate environments if it wasn’t for email sync. Here’s the thing though, using a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, you can only attach one BlackBerry device to our account. This means that you can have your email on your BlackBerry phone, but not on any other devices, like a PlayBook.

So, what do you do? Easy, set up Bluetooth tethering from your BlackBerry Enterprise Server-enabled device and your PlayBook. You’ll need to make sure that they’re close enough to each other to sync and talk to each other, but this will allow you to see your messages on your PlayBook.

Take a look at this link for more information about what you should know about the BlackBerry PlayBook and feel free to leave any comments if you’ve got the device letting us know what you think!
