Symantec Boundary Defense Welcome Message

Hello,

Our organization has switched to Symantec email protection today. This service protects our email from spam and viruses. Please take a moment to review the important information below.

If you were using MailRoute for message filtering, your quarantine will be accessible for the next two weeks and you may receive quarantine reports during this time.

There are two very important tasks you’ll want to do soon:
1. Set your password for the service
2. Log in to the service for the first time to familiarize yourself with the interface.

Step 1. How to set your password for Symantec Spam Manager:
1. To access Symantec Email Protection, please go to https://spammanager-3.messagelabs.com
2. Click the link “Forgot your password or need to create a password?”

3. Enter your email address
4. Click the button labeled “Reset Password Reset”
5. In a few minutes, check your email to get your link to set a new password (Be sure to click the link within 1 hour).

Step 2. Get familiar with the new Symantec interface:
Once you set your password and log in to https://spammanager-3.messagelabs.com, you’ll see your email quarantine and can act upon messages from here.
NOTE: We’ve found that during the first few days, you may want to log in to this page to manage your quarantine. Sometimes messages you want to allow through will be caught and it takes a little time for Symantec to optimize filtering for your mailbox usage patterns.

When you log in, your quarantine queue is the first thing you’ll see.

You can select one or more messages, and then choose what action to take. Your options are:

Release: Deliver to your mailbox
Delete: Deletes the message
Delete All: Delete all of the selected messages
View: Click the bold blue Sender text to view the message

Manage your Approved and Blocked Senders

To Add or Remove email addresses to your “Approved Senders” and “Blocked Senders” lists.
1. Click on the appropriate tab
2. Click the “Add Entry” button

3. Enter the email address or domain you want to allow or block and a description (both are required). In this example, we’re entering “lanlogic.com” which will allow email from all lanlogic.com email addresses

4. Click the “Save” button to add it to the list.
5. Repeat this process for the “Approved Senders” and “Blocked Senders” lists, as appropriate for your needs.

Important: You should not put your domain name in your own approved senders list—this could cause problems with spam from spoofed email addresses not being quarantined as expected.

Manage your Aliases

If you have several email addresses within your organization (for example, jsmith@demo.com and jane@demo.com), you can combine these as aliases under a single Spam Manager account. This is sometimes used for alternate spellings of a name or to manage a spam for a distribution list like sales@demo.com.

To Add or Remove email aliases,

1. Click on Options > Manage Aliases

2. Enter the full email address of the alias address you wish to protect that belongs to your domain, and click the Add button.

3. An email will be sent to your other email address, requesting confirmation that this email address should become an alias.
4. Click the link in the email you receive to authorize spam and virus filtering for that address.
